Hola and welcome to my blog! My name is Jessica Suwata, I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I currently live in Charleston, South Carolina with my husband and our three beautiful fur babies Luna, Nubes and Oakley. I was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and grew up in Medellin, Colombia, known as the “city of eternal spring” due to it’s weather. Growing up, my mom always made homemade delicious Colombian dishes. I wasn’t raised eating unhealthy meals as my mom always tried to give us the best nutrients. BUT I am not going to lie, my mom’s cooking was high in carbohydrates and sodium. The reality is, Colombian traditional dishes are absolutely amazing in taste but they do tend to be high in fats, carbohydrates and sodium. I enjoy cooking Colombian food but I do tend modify some ingredients towards a more healthy approach.
How it all started…..
I consider myself a foodie, exercise and travel enthusiast. Although, as a teenager, I didn’t care about eating properly or exercising at all. It wasn’t until my early 20s when I was sent to see a nutritionist due to having extremely high cholesterol. That’s when I decided to take care of my health. Ever since then, I started changing my eating and exercise habits. My life completely changed that day moving forward and I started developing a strong passion for food and wellness.
When my husband and I met several years ago, we both weren’t into cooking that much but this passion for cooking started building in us the moment we moved in together. We started finding so much inspiration through traveling and exploring amazing cuisine, through our favorite local restaurants, through magazines, cooking books etc….. With time, we became better and better in the kitchen and we enjoyed getting creative with food. We absolutely love cooking together and we always look forward to our favorite time of the day……..DINNER. Even though we both have busy careers, dinner time is our time together to share about our day, to enjoy an amazing dinner and why not a glass of wine here an there.
Why a blog?…….
I decided to create this blog as a space to share many delicious recipes that are simple, nutritious and easy to prepare. I am a firm believer that good food is one of the components that makes us happy, but I also believe that everything in moderation can lead to having better health. My husband makes a huge part of this blog as he is also super passionate for cooking and not going to lie, he creates delicious meals that are unbelievable. In this blog, expect to also see some traveling experiences such as favorite restaurant and places to visit, local restaurant guides and everything life related.
